Festivals in Drôme provençale: music in the spotlight
Drôme is famous for its music festivals, which attract artists and audiences from all over the world. Take advantage of these opportunities to discover the region’s musical and artistic diversity.
- Crest Jazz Vocal : This annual event for jazz lovers takes place in the charming town of Crest, less than an hour’s drive from Les Hauts de Chirol. Enjoy internationally renowned performances in an intimate atmosphere every summer, for one week between late July and early August.
- Festival Mozart : Every year, starting in June and lasting for a month, the ‘Saoû sing Mozart’ association offers over twenty concerts throughout the Drôme.
The high point of the event is the weekend in Saoû at the beginning of July, which offers festive days for young and old alike: meetings with the artists in residence, concerts – not always classical – featuring works by Mozart, but also Bach, Beethoven, Haydn, Schubert and Schumann.

Take advantage of the day to discover the village of Poët-Laval, listed as one of the ‘most beautiful villages in France’. The picturesque village of Le Poêt-Laval is 40 minutes from the gîte and Les Tonils.
- Nyons Festiv’été: Less than an hour from Les Hauts de Chirol, the town of Nyons offers more than twenty free concerts on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings in July and August, at 9.30pm in the town centre.
Literary festivals in Drôme
- Bourdeaux Storytelling Festival : This cultural event, also known as the ‘Nouvelles du conte’, promotes storytelling and reading aloud for everyone. The shows, aimed at families, adults, teenagers and children, are usually performed in the open air. The programme also includes introductions, training courses and open stages, as well as encounters between articles and audiences.
- Festival de la Correspondance : If you’re a fan of the art of letter-writing, why not head to Grignan, about an hour away, past Crupies, Vesc and Montjoux. In early July, this cultural event celebrates the art of the letter through the ages and in a variety of forms, both traditional and contemporary. It features performances, readings, writing and calligraphy workshops, and invites writers, artists, actors, academics and researchers.
Local traditions and cultural events
- The Bourdeaux medieval festival: since the 1960s, Bourdeaux has hosted street entertainment, a banquet, fairs and refreshment stands every 15 August. Then, as night falls, it’s time for a historical parade, a sound and light show and a dance with an orchestra. The medieval legend of the village is brought to life with a torch-lit parade and the setting ablaze of the ruins and the old quarter.
- Provencal markets : in Bourdeaux on Thursdays and Dieulefit on Fridays, discover local products such as picodon cheeses and traditional charcuterie, as well as pottery and local crafts.
